Parents, please try to encourage your student to arrive on time each morning. We are seeing an increase in unexcused tardies to 1st period lately and ask for your help in decreasing the number of students arriving late to school.

Updates:
We are so proud of the ERA Swim Team! We took a total of 4 boys and 1 girl to swim at states. (Joseph Barr, Matthew Czar, Jack Frank, Collin Overby, and Mary Shanahan. 2 freshmen earned the alternate swimmer spots – Ethan Overby and Nick Sedman-Young)
Mary Shanahan – 1st in the morning prelims and then won 1st in the finals medaling and earning champion as well as an All American Considerations time for the 100 Butterfly . She also won 1st and received championship for States 1A/2A for 100 Backstroke events for 1A/2A states swimming. Single handedly scored enough points to rank the girls team 16th in the state for 1A/2A.
Jack Frank -swam morning prelims and made it back to finals in the 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle. Jack finished 3rd and medaled in the 200 Free and earned 5th place in the 500 Freestyle.
Collin Overby swam the 200 Individual medley and finished 19th in prelims. He also swam the 100 Breaststroke and finished in 16th place in the prelims and 15th place in finals.
Matthew Czar swam the 50 Freestyle in finals and finished in 4th place earning a medal and also swam the 100 Butterfly and finished in 7th place.
Conference Championship:
Boys won regular season and conference championship
Girls came in 2nd for the season and came in 3rd in the conference championships
Eno River Academy won sportsmanship award for the conference
Collin Overby won swimmer of the year for our conference
Paula Alford won swim coach of the year for the conference

STEM Camp provides the opportunity for students to do hands-on activities with faculty and staff in the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and the School of Engineering.

Registration for STEM Camp includes a $150.00 non-refundable fee per student. Fifty seats are available per camp and are a first come, first served basis. Please register your student for the correct grade level.

Efland Ruritan Club Scholarship
Seniors have the opportunity for two scholarships that are guaranteed money for ERA. One scholarship is for students who are trying to enter four year college/community college and one is for technical school. Please see the information linked here and here and drop off your application by April 4th.
Orange County Summer Camp Counselor Positions
I am reaching out to broadly spread the word that Orange County is now accepting applications for Recreation Summer Camp Counselor positions for 2023. This year we will be differentiating between Senior and Junior Counselors and hiring accordingly. Full position descriptions are available on the HR website at www.orangecountync.gov/jobs. Both positions close Friday, February 24.
ERA Ice Skating Night:

Men’s Volleyball Tryouts:
Coach Young and Couch Kimbrough will be holding men’s volleyball tryouts on February 21st and 22nd. Reach out to them for more information!
ACT Prep
The ACT will be Tuesday, March 7 for all 11th grade students.
We will offer self-paced, free, online prep materials for students who are interested. Please complete this form if you would like this ACT prep.
Bobcat Spotlight
In an effort to highlight our amazing staff and students we are initiating the Bobcat Spotlight.
Each month has a different character trait (February is Courage). When you see someone exhibiting this behavior then you nominate them using this link. You can also snap a picture if you like!
Both students and teachers can be nominated! Check out the bulletin board in the commons to see printed pictures and blurbs about how our nominated students and staff displayed the character trait!
